Position Purpose and Objectives:
Under the general supervision of the Mountain Area Manager, the Coal Creek Storekeeper/ Utility Worker is responsible for warehousing and inventory control functions, including material receipt and issuance. Responsible for maintaining an adequate supply of materials, supplies, tools, and equipment for the Company, as well as accurately recording all storekeeping transactions. Responsible for the District’s inventory and control and recording regularly scheduled readings of company electric meters.
Essential Job Functions:
- Maintains continuous inventory control over stock in storage in the warehouse and the yard to ensure an adequate supply for construction and maintenance; maintains inventory at proper level to avoid overstocking.
- Uses the financial systems of record, including financials, barcoding, and other systems as needed to accomplish the day-to-day activities of the position and to maintain proper controls and records.
- Coordinates with the Warehouse, Procurement, Mechanics, and other departments frequently.
- Requisitions items necessary for construction and maintenance; keeps purchase order file to check deliveries as needed.
- Furnishes necessary information upon request to the accounting function for matching of purchase orders and receiving records; initiates information for correspondence to correct irregularities.
- Regularly receives all incoming shipments for all departments and records items received in the receiving record.
- On a daily basis, or as needed, receives or generates material sheets and assembles and issues the items necessary to construction and maintenance.
- Assigns and affixes numbers to transformers; tracks material serial numbers, sells material to consumers as needed.
- Makes up material issue, return, and credit tickets; and makes proper postings as needed.
- Occasionally disassembles retired material; reconditions salvaged items and returns to stock where practicable.
- Relays all inputs from line personnel relating to field application of construction unit assembly when requested.
- Is responsible for overall housekeeping and appearance of warehouse and pole yards, in accordance with assigned standards on a daily basis.
- Periodically prepares reports for fire insurance on materials and equipment.
- Operates a variety of hand tools, skid steer, snow plow, motorized forklift, and related permanent tools and equipment and performs related duties as assigned.
- Recommends changes as needed for new procedures for accuracy or efficiency of stores or record keeping functions.
- Is responsible for the distribution of the gloves/sleeves on a monthly basis and keeps them organized in an orderly fashion for issuance and return.
- Reads and records electric kilowatt hours and demand for United Power customers as needed.
- Performs oil changes, tire repair, washes equipment and other minor vehicle maintenance that does not require the skills of a certified vehicle mechanic. Coordinates with the Mechanics and moves vehicles and equipment as needed.
- Occasionally operates lower controls in bucket truck during rescue or training.
Secondary Job Functions:
Must be able to react to change productively and handle other tasks as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Must have high school diploma, or equivalent, and basic math skills with ability to accurately record numbers. Two years of work experience in line construction or related field is preferred. Must have a valid Colorado driver’s license with a good driving record, and the ability to obtain a CDL, CPR and AED Certification and Flagging Certification within 90 days of employment. Excellent interpersonal and customer relations skills required. Computer use is frequent and detailed.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knows, understands and applies all safety rules and regulations necessary to safely perform the job and enforces safety rules and safe work practices.
Ability to work effectively with employees and contractors while exercising proper accounting and control over supplies; ability to work with numbers, accounting systems and procedures, and to implement inventory control measures; knowledge of warehousing and inventory control systems. A basic understanding of line construction materials and REA procedures is very helpful. Must read and understand computer printouts for inventory control and maximum/ minimum order quantities. Must be able to generate and work from computer-printed pick lists.
Essential Physical and Mental Demands:
Twenty percent (20%) of the time each day is spent standing, thirty percent (30%) sitting, and fifty percent (50%) walking.
The Coal Creek Storekeeper/Utility Worker frequently lifts and carries up to 100 lbs. when unloading trucks and restocking bins. They occasionally push and pull up to 200 lbs. when moving wire reels in the pole yard and moving purchased supplies to the necessary area with a dolly. Occasionally uses controls when operating forklift.
This position requires occasional climbing when getting into forklift or truck, getting up and down on dock, and getting to top bins to reach inventory supplies. Balancing is constantly essential when walking, standing, climbing, and lifting. Stooping is done frequently when stocking shelves, lifting material and filling orders. Kneeling and crouching are occasionally necessary when stocking shelves and filling orders.
Reaching is frequently important when operating forklift, filling orders and stocking shelves. Handling and fingering are constantly being done when writing, working on computer, filling orders and restocking. Feeling occasionally is important to distinguish one inventory item from another.
Talking and hearing are done frequently throughout the day when communicating with employees and vendors delivering material.
Seeing “near” is occasionally needed when completing record keeping, working on computer and reading serial numbers on equipment. This is especially important during annual inventory. Seeing “far” and depth perception are frequently necessary when operating forklift, seeing who is in the pole yard from the garage or vice versa, and directing trucks with large loads through pole yard. Eye accommodation is frequently necessary when filling order and doing other paperwork and computer work. Occasionally, field of vision is important for safety reasons, especially when working in the pole yard. Color vision is occasionally needed to identify sizes of some items.
Mental abilities that are essential to this job are alertness, precision, problem solving, auditory discrimination, tactile discrimination, speaking ability, memory, concentration, judgment, writing ability, reasoning, initiative, patience and visual discrimination. Those that are only occasionally necessary are ingenuity, analytic ability, creativity, and imagination.
Working Conditions:
The Coal Creek Storekeeper/Utility Worker spends about fifty percent (50%) of the time indoors and fifty percent (50%) of the time outdoors. Noise level is estimated to be 70-90 decibels for approximately three hours per day.
When working in the garage, the Coal Creek Storekeeper/Utility Worker must frequently work with fumes, gases, odors and dust with vehicles pulling in and out of the garage. Mechanical hazards may possibly be present with running the forklift and the hazards with toxic chemicals that are in stock in the warehouse. With the highly exposed work site, especially in the pole yard, the Coal Creek Storekeeper/Utility Worker must be constantly aware of their surroundings to prevent injuries.
