Supervise the staff (defined as union, university students, temporary employee) throughout the Dining operation /Assist manager in defining and adhering to labor needs and target hours; check staff in, designate work assignments, and replace vacant staff as needed; train, direct, coach, counsel and, when applicable, evaluate staff within assigned areas; assist in developing, and always strive to maintain high standards of quality, customer service, safety and sanitation; ensure adherence to state and federal food safety guidelines; provide leadership and act as a role model to all staff, consistently emphasizing the department's commitment to customer service; assess and recommend employee training needs as they relate to customer service and other areas; uphold policies and practices with consistency and effectiveness; Efficient, high-quality, well-managed operations which adhere to high standards; well-trained, motivated workforce.
Oversee all aspects of operations, ensuring excellent service to customers / Ensure that units are opened and closed on schedule and that all menu items are available throughout; ensure that food is prepared, displayed and maintained in a proper and aesthetically-pleasing manner throughout the period of service; ensure that food and supply levels are adequate throughout meals, physically transferring items between units as necessary; if job applies deliver food orders to campus departments and events using University vehicle; maintain a presence throughout meal periods in both dining and serving areas, and be visible to customers; monitor product quality and proactively correct deficiencies; oversee proper use and maintenance of equipment, performing corrective maintenance when possible; ensure that there is adequate cash and change on hand; ensure that pricing and other product information is neatly, clearly and accurately displayed; monitor accuracy of cash register prices and address errors immediately / Smooth, high-quality meal service achieving maximum customer satisfaction.
Oversee cash and inventory control, and security of facilities / Ensure security of safes, cash registers, food, equipment, vehicle(s) and facilities themselves; verify accuracy of banks and impress funds; check accuracy of deposits; manage cash flow, including ordering and issuing of change, according to dept. standards; monitor cashiers and ensure that they accurately ring up sales; maintain inventory files; accurately tally and record inventory levels and transfer information appropriately; enforce proper portion control procedures; evaluate product offerings and vendors, making recommendations to manager to achieve suitable product mix while maximizing profit; maintain target labor hours; record and/or review and approve employees' timekeeping for payroll; monitor employees' time, investigate problems and propose solutions; appropriately enforce departmental policies that relate to theft, monitoring activity and reporting incidentsÂ / High degree of cash control and product security consistent with department standards, expenses kept within target ranges, and optimal financial performance achieved in affiliated units.
Assist in marketing and merchandising products and services /Â Stay professionally current and keep up with industry trends; actively participate in department and University meetings and activities,Â and other relevant networking and educational opportunities; continually assess our product and service offerings and research, propose and assist in implementation and evaluation of new services; oversee the attractive display of food, merchandise and decorative items in units; utilize vendor services for assistance with product merchandising; ensure that an adequate customer feedback mechanism is available, and monitor its activity; survey customers to evaluate needs and assess satisfaction levels; respond to customer questions and requests; develop high-quality, appropriate signage as needed / UnitsÂ offerings are fresh, contemporary, and popular, and are presented in an aesthetically-appealing way, ensuring maximum sales.Â Â
Assist in supervising operation of Dining Units (residential 2 all you care to eat / 4 retail locations / convenience store / catering / faculty club)
Supervise units whose combined sales were approx. $30 million
Supervise three categories of employees: union, student and temporary employees
Supervise up to 50 employees in a unit at a time, while rotating among multiple, tasks and units
Minimum two years of supervisory experience in a food service environment, and Associates degree in HRI or a related discipline, or equivalent combination of education and professional experience.
Effective communication skills
Valid driverâ™s license and a clean recent driving record required
Working knowledge of MS Word and Excel, Google platforms and experience with menu/inventory management system preferred
Experience with POS system
Culinary knowledge and/or experience
RI Food Safety Management License or Serv Safe equivalency; if not, candidate is required to obtain within one year of hire
Strong customer service orientation
Demonstrated high standards of quality and sanitation
Ability to prioritize, problem-solve, and work independently
Ability to effectively work with a team
Sensitivity to a diverse population
