The Product Development Engineer is responsible for the design, validation, development, and production launch activities for a variety of automotive aftermarket performance products for the On and Off-road market segment. The successful candidate will establish technical requirements, cost targets and development milestones while working in a cross-functional team environment to create consumer products. This position will report directly to the Director of Engineering & Product Development and has a high level of independent judgment and decision making. Where you’ll spend your time: - Use SolidWorks extensively to design aftermarket automotive components and systems to achieve maximum performance for the enthusiast market. (e.g., suspension, skids plates, intercoolers, intakes, fuel systems, bracketry, accessory mounting solutions, etc.)
- Generate working CAD models of components and assemblies
- Crating manufacturing and assembly prints using GD&T ASME standards
- Manage multiple projects from conception through production by researching, planning, and designing automotive performance products and systems
- Write technical specifications and engineering documents; develop bills of material, technical product installation manuals and owner’s manuals and may create illustrations
- Interact with internal and external entities such as purchasing, quality control, manufacturing, customer service, and outside vendors throughout all phases of product development.
- Setting up test procedures, perform product validation, and put together analytical reports for management review
- Research OEM, competitive products, and patents - and make recommendations for design strategies
- Be able to design and/or fabricate test apparatus and equipment, and the development of methods and procedures for testing products and systems. Analyze test data and summarize findings, write technical engineering reports and engineering documents
- Leverage 3D scanning, printing capabilities to design products in a manner that will allow efficient and cost-effective manufacturing and/or fabrication. Understand how to design or modify parts to be rapidly prototyped or 3D printed.

Your work environment: - Combination of office and shop Environment.
- Must be able to work at a desk and requires extended periods of sitting/standing.
- Must be able to work in the shop on vehicles or out in the field installing/test-fitting and field-testing products which requires exposure to a shop environment
- Requires repetitive movement and requires repeating the same physical or mental activities including bending, pushing, pulling, and movement in small spaces.
- Requires ability to lift 35 lbs. on a regular basis.
- Requires the technical ability to take apart and re-assemble vehicles.
- Able to travel to vendor facility visits, trade shows, events, product testing trips and is anticipated approx. 3 weeks per year but could be more or less depending on business needs.
