As the SO11 Lead Vehicle Mechanic for the Grounds Department you will: *Oversee, coordinate, and supervise schedules for daily activities of skilled Vehicular and Diesel Mechanics engaged in maintenance, repairs and overhauling a wide variety of turf, heavy construction and vehicular equipment. *Train staff in equipment maintenance and repair procedures including all safety protocols. *Inspect work for compliance with standards. *Assist management in the research and selection of all large and small equipment purchases *Handle day to day procurement needs for the shops area. *Oversee NYS vehicle inspection program for Grounds Department. *Act as Lead Mechanic reporting directly to the Construction Manager of Grounds.

Will be subject to call-in twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week to handle emergencies and extended working hours (including nights, early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays) to meet seasonal work demands.
Will be subject to working in weather related extremes of heat or cold for extended periods.
Must be able to work in confined spaces underneath vehicles and equipment on lifts.
Will be regularly exposure to gasoline, diesel fuels and other petroleum products.
Are expected to promptly report unsafe conditions or damage to campus landscape, equipment or facilities.
Will be operating heavy snow removal equipment, including dump truck with wing plow and salt spreader, large loader with plow and snow box in a high traffic commercial environment.
Must be able to climb and work from ladders.
Must be able to work effectively in a noisy environment.
What we need:
High School diploma or equivalent.
Must have and maintain a valid driver's license
CDL B required.
Minimum of six years experience in the repair and operation of a large variety of equipment
Three years leadership experience required.
Must be OBD II certified (on-board diagnostic system).
NYS Inspection Certificate for light duty and heavy duty vehicles required.
Air Brake certification.
Must pass a pre-employment drug test and be subject to random drug and alcohol testing.
Must be able to analyze complex mechanical, electrical, fuel and power (transmission) delivery system failures and make repairs.
Ability to organize and schedule work.
Skilled in written and oral communication.
Ability to understand and follow oral instructions.
Ability to make repairs and adjustments in accordance with diagrams, sketches, operation manuals, and manufacturer's specifications.
Ability to use welding, burning, and brazing equipment to make repairs.
