The Ford Plantation Club is seeking applicants for the position of Head Equipment Manager. Our long tenured EM, Mr. Alan Bussey, is stepping down after 11 years with the club to pursue other passions and business ventures. Over the last 11 years, Mr. Bussey has transformed the equipment maintenance departments at the club to new heights through innovation, vision, flexibility, leadership, humor, smarts and hard work.
The Equipment Manager is responsible for maintenance of equipment and oversight of a comprehensive preventive maintenance program in the following departments: Golf Course Maintenance, Grounds Maintenance, Lakes Management, Equestrian Facility, Facilities Maintenance, Lodging and Housekeeping Services. The Golf Course Maintenance and Grounds equipment fleet is currently with the Toro Company (4-year lease). The Equipment Manager has 2 direct reports, a grounds department technician and a golf course maintenance technician.

Inspects, diagnoses and repairs mechanical defects/failures in various equipment, including diesel, electric, and gasoline powered automobiles, trucks, trenchers, sweepers, rollers, mower, and other mechanical equipment use in utility work.
Responsible for facility maintenance and upgrade planning and oversight. In conjunctions with the Director, develops long range plans for the continuing development of the maintenance compound.
Instructs and/or trains operators and technicians regarding preventive maintenance, and the proper cleaning of and safe operation of equipment.
Prioritizes equipment repair and maintenance work.
Maintains a preventive maintenance program within budget on all equipment, and purchases repair parts and replacement supplies.
Maintains a complete set of records for equipment and parts inventory purchases, equipment conditions, cost of repairs and preventives maintenance for all equipment.
Spot checks equipment for performances and makes emergency repairs to equipment and services or supervises servicing of equipment prior to use.
Performs and or directs wash pad maintenance
Oversees the repair facility maintenance in two (2) locations
Regulates employees’ use of equipment in the absence of superintendent and assistant superintendents, if needed, and performs other duties as directed by the director.
Recommends equipment purchases and leases- responsible for compiling and gathering lease agreements, negotiating these leases and working with the Director, GM, and CFO to finalize deals.
Participates in continuing education.
Ensures that all members, guest, and co-workers are treated in a friendly and respectful manner in accordance with the standards of excellence of The Ford Plantation.

Hearing must be sufficient to understand conversation in a noisy environment
Must have hand usage.
Ability to work in a variety of weather conditions while repairing equipment.
REQUIRED WORK HABITS:
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
Highschool diploma or equivalent.
Secondary education in a mechanic related field preferred but not required.
3 - 5 years minimum experience at a golf course or turf maintenance facility.
Expert in maintaining numerous types of grass cutting units.
Working knowledge of light and heavy maintenance equipment and automotive apparatuses.
Skilled in the use of a variety of equipment repair tools and the making of various types of mechanical repairs.
Working knowledge of the theory, care, and operation of the internal combustion engines and mowing equipment.
Skilled in welding and light metal fabrication
Ability to diagnose mechanical troubles and determine appropriate maintenance work.
Working knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions of the profession.
Must be able to communicate effectively and keep business records.
Knowledge of and/or the ability to play the game of golf and understand how the job performance affects the playing conditions of the golf course.
Possession of a valid driver’s license.
